Who We Are:

The H&DW&D committee comprises of founder members Chris Mills, Peter Cook, Steve Hursthouse and Chris Holtby who are seen in the above photo with honourary members David Pennels and Phil Davies. The founders are all life long bus enthusiasts with a varying share ownership of the vehicles in the collection. David and Phil are widely respected as being “Mr. Wilts & Dorset” and “Mr. Hants & Dorset” respectively having both written extensive fleet histories for the PSV Circle in the 1960′s and contributing detail and photographs to many subsequent publications covering the two companies. Our Objects:

To advance the education of the public by increasing knowledge and interest in all aspects of the transport heritage and character of the bus companies Hants & Dorset Motor Services Ltd. and Wilts & Dorset Motor Services Ltd. and their successors in Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire.

Powers – in furtherance of the Objects, the committee may exercise the following powers:

To support the maintenance, restoration and preservation for the benefit of the public, vehicles, artefacts, archive material and other items which pertain to and reflect the transport heritage and character of the above named companies and their successors.

To support and/or organise events for the purpose of educating the public in the transport heritage and character of the above named companies and their successors.

Understanding that the vehicles are currently housed in a location/locations where they are not available for public view, the Collection will aim for any of its vehicles that are roadworthy to attend as many local rallies as possible, which currently include the Friends of King Alfred running day in Winchester, at least one of the two Bristol based rallies, the Weymouth Bus Rally, the Alton Bus Rally and the Gosport Bus Rally, and to use as many of them “in service” to carry passengers in accordance with the bus timetables operated at those events.

To buy, lease, hire or otherwise acquire any property necessary for the achievement of the Objects and to maintain and equip it for use.

To co-operate with other voluntary bodies, charities and statutory authorities operating in furtherance of the Objects and to exchange information and advice with them.

To do all lawful things as are necessary for the achievement of the Objects.
